The weave is the primal magic that suffuses the world of Arnendor. A strange energy found in all places, the weave imbues the creatures and things of the world with strange powers and unique characteristics. Scholars who probe the world for answers to magical phenomena have found little but insanity, but the little they have found is quite insightful.
"The weave appears", according to Ndidi Obasi, a polymath famous for her attempts to use mathematics to comprehend the arcane, "to be less a thing, and rather a field, a consequence of some raw and natural essence of our existence."
Obasi's most famous quote reads, “While there may be magics that can be controlled, studied, and written, there seems always to be more that is mystical. There are always more exceptions to our rules. It is my personal, academic, and spiritual conclusion that the weave is fate and fate is the weave, and that the arcane allows us only the secrets it sees fit to give.”
Nevertheless, Obasi laid the foundation for a considerable amount of arcane study that still occurs to this day; many formulations, somatics, materials, and alchemical solutions can be traced to her work.
Esugen Naraanbatar, another famous arcanist, is often cited for their demarcation of magic into distinct categories. While many debate the validity of such demarcations, and while as Obasi said there “are always more exception to our rules,” Naraanbatar’s Logica Arcanica has its place in both academic and colloquial contexts.

Points of contention arise almost immediately; many modern critics point to Naraanbatar’s almost fanatic belief that nature is one aspect of the divine. Reformulations of the Logica Arcanica are often pedantic, but Naraanbatar’s demarcations are useful for understanding the different practical uses of magic.
